Week 8 has been a busy week for the Verde's which brought many changes, but not the generation shift. It started with Rufus Jr asking his best friend Valarie McGrath to move in with the family. While Kylie and Kyle Jr went off to fish, Rufus Jr and Valarie took things to a new level, they however opted to stay friends for the time being. Valarie wasn't thrilled with dumpster diving but she wanted to pull her weight in the house, her first trip to the dumpster she brought home a working tv. A few days later Valarie discovered that her clothes no longer fit properly. The family had money to spare and after contracting with Dragon Construction for a simple family abode Rufus Jr and Valarie moved into their new home together. A few days after the move Rufus Jr called to announce the arrival of twins; son Heath McGrath and daughter Alesha McGrath. During her visit to meet her new grandchildren Kylie admitted that had she considered the possibility of twins she would have contracted for a different model house for them. By the time Friday rolled around Rufus Jr called again this time to announce that he and Valarie had gotten married and that now their last name is McGrath-Verde, but the twins were staying McGrath. Meanwhile Kyle Jr caught a perfect anchovy which brought the family's collection of perfect fish up to 13. Kylie contacted Dragon Construction this time she forked over her hard earned and saved cash and the islands grocery & general goods store was built at the north end of the island. Since Kylie had it built the family owns the property. Rufus Jr worked as a part time clerk for a few days before finding a different career for himself. Now that the island had a grocer Kylie released Kyle Jr of all obligations to help her with her goals. After a review of the family funds Kyle Jr placed a mail order through the store and contacted the construction company about growing their home a little bit. Kyle Jr was happy when his order arrived: a mirror, desk, chair, computer, and a chess table with chairs. Kylie and Kyle Jr focused on their respective goals for the remainder of the week, and Kylie was thrilled when she mastered her handiness skill. At the end of the week Kylie hosted a fantastic party which allowed Kyle Jr to get better acquainted with some of the women around the island. He knows that eventually he's going to have to ask at least one of them to move in and have children with him but he's not in a rush. He's trying to get his name known in the publishing circles. Family Funds: $18,543 (after buying the store $27,000 and moving Rufus Jr out $14,330)

Week 7 was a busy week for the family, primarily focused on fishing. Week 7 also found the family celebrating three birthdays. First birthday up took me by surprise. I was less than thrilled to see Kylie become an elder already. Especially as she still has a bit of work to do for finishing her goals. Next birthday up was Rufus Jr, he gained his final trait and rolled his LTW. I felt that formal dress for the young adult transition was in good order, and while only the women they knew from around town were invited a few guys showed up too. The final birthday for the week was Kyle Jr. The game rolled/assigned him the Lucky trait for his transition and I rolled a five on my die roller which gained him the LTW of Professional author. I was sad to see with a quick in cas check that Kyle Jr didn't get his moms eye color; but those traits (loves the outdoors, great sense of humor, lucky, easily impressed, and kleptomaniac) and his ltw more than made up for no lavender eyes. If you think you've guessed who I'll be naming as heir based on birthday write ups, well you're probably right but formal reveal will still wait for another post. ;) Family Funds: $35,565 Lot Value: Furnished $16,915; Unfurnished $8,573 No dumpster diving to speak of for week 7. The family has the money needed for the store, and fishing really needed to be a priority. Other Events: Rufus passed away during the week. Currently his house is sitting empty. Kylie Skills: Gardening 10, Fishing 7, Handiness 8, Cooking 3, Athletic 1 Perfect Fish: 12 Rufus Jr Skills: Gardening 6, Fishing 10, Handiness 3, Cooking 2, Athletic 4, Logic 3 Kyle Jr Skills: Gardening 6, Fishing 10, Handiness 3, Athletic 2, Logic 3, Cooking 1 Shifting gears from gardening to finishing handiness and fishing requirements is a bit of a challenge for me. Especially since I really want Kylie to grow all 19 plants for the skill challenge. However if she doesn't complete the fishing requirement, 13 perfect fish, for the grocery store she won't get the challenge for growing the egg, cheese, steak, and burger plants that are unlocked by the store. Family Funds: $31,281 She now has enough to buy the store, which is good, but again if I can't get 13 perfect fish into the family inventory then the store is still a no go. Lot Value: Furnished $15,132; Unfurnished $8,573 Dumpster Finds Kept: small rug, flamingo, park bench, curtains, hand towel, a food processor, trash compactor, paper towel dispenser, set of canisters, small coffee table, telephone, and a table lamp. Kylie Skills: Gardening 10, Fishing 5, Handiness 6, Cooking 3, Athletic 1 Perfect Fish: 5 Rufus Jr Skills: Gardening 6, Fishing 8, Handiness 3, Cooking 2, Athletic 4 Kyle Jr Skills: Gardening 5, Fishing 8, Handiness 2, Athletic 2 Outside of the dumpster diving, fishing, and gardening the family as took a trip over to Rufus's house to visit him. Kylie also had to opportunities to fill for Rufus this week, upgrade his shower and give him some life fruit. The families other social event was to host a party. Given Rufus Jr, hit it off very well with the other paper girl, Tennille Floyd who is also a teen now,I'm leaning even more towards him being named as heir. Although the fact that Kyle Jr struggles to make and keep friends leans him more towards the single parent* category more than Rufus Jr's besties for life factor. * So yeah, gen 2 will be another single parent household. Starting to think the Randomcy roller hates my sims. ;) Once Kylie clears her goals I'll reveal the generation 2 goals.
Heir: Kyle Jr
In the end it was traits over DNA that won out for my selection of heir. As much as I wanted the gen 2 heir to have Kylie's lavender eye color in addition to the red hair, it was Kyle Jr's rolls for trait & LTW that cinched his fate to become the heir. Traits: Loves the Outdoors, Easily Impressed, Kleptomaniac (not a fan of this one), Great Sense of Humor, and Lucky LTW: Professional Author Random Legacy Challenge Roller Marital Status: Single Parent The single parent must raise all required children on his/her own, which means a spouse/partner isn't allowed to live in the same household as the single parent and the children. The single parent may romance as much as they like, but moving in a partner to help raise those kids is what's forbidden. Your single parent Sim may marry or have a live in partner before the first child is born or adopted, but that spouse/partner must be moved out of the household within 24 hours after the first child is born or adopted. After the first child is born, male single Sims may move in the mothers of subsequent biological children for the pregnancy only. The mother must leave the household within 24 hours after the baby is born. Single males may also use other methods, including mods or cheats, of adding their babies to the household without ever moving the mother in at all. The restriction on moving in the single parent's partner is removed once their youngest child has reached the mid point of the teen age stage (7 days for the unaltered normal lifespan; if you've tweaked the teen stage, it's whatever the halfway point is for your custom stage). After the youngest has reached the mid point of the teen stage, your single Sim may then move in or marry one partner, if you so desire (this obviously isn't required). The partner can be anyone. (Arg! of all the rotten luck, on the upside this guarantees at least 3 additional houses will be added to the game for generation 2. Which will bring the island up to 4 or 5 occupied houses. So generation 3 might be the generation to get city hall & the cemetery built no matter the career roll.) Number of Children: 2 Children Your generation is only allowed to have 2 children. Note that exceeding this number by having accidental twins or triplets is fine, but you must not have any more children after that. Primary Career: Education I'm using this as a way to get the school built on the island, after this generation it will no longer be a career option. Metrics I'm going to use are the skills needed for the Ambitions based career Charisma 10 (or as high as possible) & Logic 10, I'm also tossing on two of the Skill challenges for logic. From Carl's Guide Teacher Extraordinaire You'll get this after twenty hours of tutoring a schoolage Sim. Your Sim will tutor Sims a bit faster once they've completed the challenge. Note that this feature is available at level 5, after which you can begin tutoring children, so if your Sim has kids, you can get started early! Skill Professor At level 10 in the logic skill, your Sim can teach other Sims the skills they know. At 30 hours completed teaching skills, this challenge is done, and will increase the rate at which your Sim teaches other Sims skills. Note if for any reason tutoring children is not available, because there currently isn't a rabbit hole school building then I'll wave that part. Generational Goal: Fulfilled Both your heir and their spouse (if applicable) must obtain their LTW. Changing the LTW via aspiration reward is allowed. In addition, any Wish that is "promised" (that is, pinned to the board) MUST be fulfilled. You may only cancel a promised wish if it becomes impossible to fulfill. (for instance, "play game with sim" when said sim has died.) You do not have to promise every (or any) wish, but once promised this rule applies. Miscellaneous Fun: Hands Off - Not compatible with game yet, as dumpster diving and collecting will once again have to be primary source of income for generation 2. You may not use the robotic hand of god function in awesomemod, or otherwise use your mouse to move things from one inventory to another, clean up laundry, dirty plates, etc. Let those sims clean up after themselves for a while. All items for careers must be sold in the Consignment Store (Ambitions), or to rabbitholes that will buy them (i.e. a gardener career Sim may sell produce to the grocery store). The Reroll Miscellaneous Fun: No Strangers You may not call any service sims to the lot. This includes pizza delivery sims and babysitters; if both of your sims have to work, tough! Lots to add: Career - School - Maxed Charisma and Logic (no money requirement). Trait/LTW - Kyle Jr's traits don't really lend to any additional lots, his LTW want though lends itself to two more possible lots; library & the bookstore. Bookstore - Maxed Writing, and buy (not partner) the rabbithole. ($27,000); Library - Maxed Writing, and must purchase the lot. He'll aim for the bookstore, but hope for both. Community add on - Chess table(s) to the park - At level 10 logic Week 5 went very nice, even if it took a bit longer to play with 3 active sims. Family Funds $22,047 Lot Value: Furnished $14,755 ; Unfurnished $8,333 Dumpster Finds: Wall clock, dining chair, 2 table lamps, 2 floor lamps, end tables, video game console, floor stereo, table top radio, alarm clock, counter clutter - jar with spoons, and 2 rugs. (Any bugs, minerals, gems, and duplicate not usable items were sold off.) I've decided that as far as power goes Kylie has run a power cord to the traffic light by the corner of their lot, and that the street & traffic lights are powered by solar panels at the top of the poles not reachable without special equipment. So that is how she is getting power for the lights and radios. ;) Kylie Completed her LTW presenting the perfect garden, while not one her goals for her I will try to complete growing 19 unique plants with Kylie. After I got her the collections finder reward, I also got her the super green thumb and speed cleaner LTR items. I was pleased to see that I had already identified all but a few spots to collect seeds on the map. Her primary focus now will be maxing her fishing skill and increasing handiness to meet the needs of her science career roll. I had to turn down one opportunity for Kylie as incomplete-able, it was to provide Rufus a death flower plant. Skills: Gardening 10, Handiness 4, Fishing 4, Cooking 3, Athletic 1 LTR: 9,655 Rufus Jr Transitioned to teen during the first part of the week. His new trait is Athletic, I did not get to role or pick. He was happy to see that Valarie was also a teen, but sad to learn that she hates the outdoors. As a teen his expected contributions to the house have increased. He know helps pay the bills and takes a turn each day dumpster diving. I also now allow him to go everywhere on the island which increases his places to fish from. Skills: Athletic 3, Cooking 1, Fishing 7, Gardening 4, Handiness 3 LTR: 13,379 Kyle Jr Transitioned towards to teen towards the end of the week. His new trait is Good Sense of Humor, like his brother no roll option for me. Skills: Fishing 7, Gardening 1, Handiness 2 LTR: 10,754 With the completion of Kylie's life time want I added 4 plants to the park. By the barn I added a lettuce plant, a tomato, and an apple tree. On the far side of the park I added a lime tree. For now these are the only wild plants on the island. With 3 sims dumpster diving I anticipate have the needed fund by the end of week 6 for the store, I just need to make sure they also have the 13 perfect fish. They have 4 so far. There is a new paper girl, her name is Tennille Floyd. The brothers will both work on becoming friends with her and Valarie. The game does come up with some interesting name's one party guest was named Junior Snowden, lol. I'm still undecided as to who the heir will be, but I am leaning towards Rufus Jr, as he is the only one of the two children to also get Kylie's lavender eyes. I'm waiting until a later date to roll the goals for generation 2 as it doesn't feel right to roll them just yet. Especially as Kylie hasn't finished her goals for generation 1. Week 4 was a much better week for Kylie and family than week 3 had been. Family Funds: $8,808 Lot Value: Furnished $12,748; Unfurnished $8,333 Additional purchases: Toy Stove, block table, Child Bed Kylie Skills: Gardening 10, Fishing 4, Handiness 3, Cooking 2 LTW Progress: She now has 5 of 8 plants perfect towards the goal of 8 perfect plants. She has also managed to complete the Botanical Boss and Master Farmer skill challenges. Whether or not I also go for the Master Planter skill challenge remains to be seen. It will depend on her age when the primary goals are completed. I don't think I remembered to note it, but Kylie transitioned from young adult to adult during week 3. LTR Points: 35,454 (almost enough for the collection finder) Rufus Jr. Traits: Loves the Outdoors, Loner, Loser Skills: Fishing 5 LTR Points: 7,672 Kyle Jr. Traits: Loves the Outdoors, Easily Impressed, Kleptomaniac Skills: Fishing 2 LTR Points: 2,909 After Kyle Jr's birthday the baby/toddler items were moved outside to make room for a bed in the small room. According to information in the nothings free rules and info on lot values at Carl's S3 Guide Kylie has about $25,000 more to save up to open the store. I don't plan on having her also own the science center so that rabbit hole will get placed once she meets the requirements. The week started out with Rufus Jr's transition from toddler to child. So Kylie threw a party and invited Rufus and Ana over to help celebrate Rufus Jr's birthday. Yes, I'm allowing cakes. The way I see it if she can make apple & lime pancakes then she can make a fruit based cake out of the pancakes. ;) With Rufus Jr now a child, he's free to explore the island. Well at least as much as I let him which means the park with fishing pond in view of the house. At the park he gets to meet other npc's, collect rocks and bugs, and fish. <s>Sophia</s> Valarie McGrath is the only female child so far. Happily she and Rufus became instant best friends with minimal interaction effort on my part. I find it interesting that when I would take Kylie to the park next to no spawners of any kind. When I take the children to the park there are rocks and bugs everywhere for the boys to find. With Rufus Jr now a child and able to help with chores and cook muffins it's given Kylie some free time and a chance to get more rest so she's not constantly walking around ready to keel over from exhaustion. This has also allowed her to complete more opportunities as she gets them. She finally got a non-gardening opportunity and even though story progression has Rufus working as a Handyman, he sent her his tv for repairs. By the time Friday rolled around it was time for Kyle Jr's birthday. Kylie invited everyone the family knew, and even had one party crasher who was made welcome. I wasn't to surprised to see that Rufus is already an elder. For the last day of the week Kylie, though exhausted was more than happy to get off the lot. She'd had the stir crazy moodlet for well over one sim week. They spent a lovely day at the park, part of which Kylie spent napping, fishing together. Kylie even gave each boy some of the extra produce so that they could fish with bait, well at least Rufus Jr can, Kyle Jr isn't skilled enough yet. They ended the day by having a campfire dinner. The boys roasted fish they had caught while Kylie roasted a potato. Not sure what I'll do if anything about Kyle Jr's kleptomaniac trait. Currently I'm ignoring his rolls to steal stuff, however even if I delete his rolled wish to steal he just rolls a new wish to steal a few seconds later.
For the presenting the perfect aquarium aspect of getting a store onto the island, I'm not going to be to fussy about who provides the fish. Here's how the house looks at the end of week 4, as you can see the boys tend to leave the toys scattered around. Yes there's money to add rooms, but if I do that then there's possibly no money to build/buy the store which needs roughly $27,000 to purchase and I'm buffering for $30,000 just in case. I'm probably going to borrow some of ea's rabbit hole builds from both Riverview and Sunset Valley, just to cut down on the fight that comes with getting rabbit holes placed on public lots. I'll build my own though for things like hangouts and art gallery's. Week 3 is a bit of a mixed bag. Kylie's progress Skills: Gardening 9, Fishing 4, Cooking 2, Handiness 2 Family Funds: $2,629 (hopefully enough to purchase a community lot for the store) Lot Value: Furnished $12,228 ; Unfurnished $8,333 Garden: Kylie now has 9 different plants, one of which is already perfect (woot). Apple, lime, lettuce, grape, tomato, potato, onion, garlic, yellow pepper. Additional purchases: Teddy bear, dollhouse, peg box, xylophone, potty chair, toy box Relationship: Kylie and Rufus are no longer romantic interests. She invited him over for her birthday, and to sell him some perfect produce he had request via opportunity. She also invited a sim named Ana, not sure how they met since Kylie hasn't left the lot since Junior's birth. Rufus & Ana started flirting within seconds of meeting. Since Kylie has to abide by the single parent roll the decent thing to do was 'ask to be just friends' with Rufus, which frees him up to pursue Ana if he wants. Children: Junior was joined by a younger brother named Kyle Jr (loves the outdoors, ???) after Kylie's dad. When Junior ages from toddler to child I'll tce him into cas so I can change his name to Rufus Jr. It looks as though both boys have Kylie's red hair, will have to wait for them to hit their child stage or teens to see if they also inherited her lavender eyes. Kylie is only getting toddler items that she rolls wants for, same applies to teaching the boys their toddler skills. Junior has learned to potty, but whether more skills get taught depends on how much time Kylie has after gardening and tending needs. Rufus Jr has had two potty lessons. Kylie is ending week 3 exhausted and passed out on the floor, while the boys play with their toys outside. I did the two babies back to back so that Kylie would be able to focus on off lot activities sooner rather than later. Kylie's second week was also a successful week. Family funds $621 Skills: Gardening 7, Fishing 4, Handiness 2, Cooking 2 Baby 1 - boy named Junior (loner, loves the outdoors) Baby 2 - on the way Lot value: Furnished $10,875 ; Unfurnished $8,321 Additional buy mode purchases: stove, second counter, kitchen sink, highchair, crib Found Furnishings kept: (week 1 & 2) BBQ grill, loveseat, dresser, coffee table, book shelf, dining table, dining chair I'm undecided on which baby will be the heir. If the second baby is also a boy (I'll need to come up with a better name than junior) then I'll go with my first roll on random.org and Junior will be the heir. If the second baby is a girl then I'll probably go with the second roll which gave me baby two for heir. Then again I might wait until they're in their teens to find out what rolls I get for generation 2 on the random legacy roller, because if gen 2 also rolls single parent ... girls are easier in that regard. Which will all be a moot point if baby # 2 is a boy, lol. I decided to be kind to the dna donor, Rufus Sutton (handy, artistic, neurotic, brave, clumsy). I plunked down an empty ea starter from the bin a few blocks from Kylie's and moved him into it. Yes that meant for one second with game on pause he lived in Kylie's house. However it was worth the tce cheat to do; they are best friends and romantic interests, and the game mechanics had him ask her for produce through an opportunity challenge while he was already visiting her. Kylie is up to 6 different plants, hopefully the rare seeds she planted will yield two different plants to bring her up to 8 plants. Once she has 8 plants I won't have her gather seeds anymore; since she also needs 13 perfect fish and maybe handiness level 5. Week One Summary Kylie has met 5 sims, 4 of whom are potential father material. She now has level 4 fishing skill, and level 3 gardening skill. Current household funds $227 Lot Value: Furnished - $8,660; Unfurnished - $7,628 Kylie spends her days, scouring the island for collectibles, especially seeds, dumpster diving, fishing, and chatting with the sims (npc's) who show up at the park. Once she had completed her house and had a fridge and counter (purchased, along with the bed and plumping) Kylie hosted a small party. She is retaining 8 of each produce type in her fridge, the extra's are sold or used to fertilize plants. Until she's able to plant the more advanced seeds she's selling them to add to her income. In typical sim fashion two different fights broke out, yet she got a pop saying that everyone felt good about having attended her party. lol Kylie Verde Traits: Great Kisser, Lucky, Loves the Outdoors, Inappropriate, Green Thumb Starting Funds: $0 Lot Starting Value: $3,200 Starting Skills: None For reasons known only to ea coders, she didn't start with 21 one days until her birthday. She started with 16. So aging is off until 6 pm Thursday (day 5) of week 1, then aging will be normal for her and all townies/npc's. Her parents made their obligatory trip to the empty community lot next to the park for their meeting with grim. They snuck in a last hug and kiss before grim arrived. Generation 3 or 4 will add the mausoleum to make the lot the official graveyard. By that time there should be enough of a population (between 6 to 8 families) on the island to warrant it and a city hall. |
