I've tried the one tomato before under normal aging and seasons rotation. So this time I went with a completely different strategy. Part of the new strategy was to imagine that she found a notice from city code enforcement on day 1 in the mailbox notifying the property owner that chain link fences were not permitted in residential areas. That on this same note was a list of recycling centers, also listed was places to get acceptable fencing. Ella noted that there was an exchange, not to unlike Habitat for Humanity, on both sides of the list. It took her two days to get all of the fence swapped out, but once she was done she had most of the original fence boundaries up, and had managed to make a small fenced section for her garden. Day one she used the surplus two buy two seed starters to go with her tomato. On day 1 once she was done with the fence and planting it was off to the library to learn what she could about gardening. Fortunately the library was open to all, even if you didn't have a home to shelter in. Once she'd read as much as she could, Ella meandered over to the main park. She's was able to snag an extra plate of food from an unsupervised picnic basket. Grab some shut eye on a bench. She rode home to tend her garden as the pre dawn hints of light were starting to lighten the sky. Ella had just finished the last of the fencing and adding the gate to her tiny garden when she spotted the bills on the ground. Ella was not impressed that all her papers were being tossed into the depths of the shrubs. She'd had just enough leftover from the bills to fulfill her wish for 5 plants. After careful consideration she selected two coffee plant starters. Her first harvest brought her a very meager income. It was just enough for the second round of bills and to get some more starters. She wants eight plants altogether. Hoping for a bit of quite Ella decided to learn fishing at the small park across the street from her home. She might have caught more than one fish if the guy hadn't been yelling into his phone. Ella quickly learned that just because she could nap the night away anywhere it wasn't always a good idea. Ella spent the bulk of week one taking advantage of the counties free services. The library was always open, whether you wanted to study or just read the latest books published. The gym, like the library was always open to all county residents, even if just a quick shower was wanted. The real jackpot though was the fire stations open door no questions asked policy. They had beds, showers, and food. The reason why Ella didn't worry about working out at the gym was the amount of time she spent riding her bike everywhere. By week two she had scrapped together enough for more building materials, as well as specialty planting mats. She'd also acquired a couple more starters, and admitted to herself that the apple tree would have to go. The bonus though was the paper's were no longer randomly tossed in the shrubs. Sometimes it just didn't pay to hang out in the library. Ella found herself wondering if Vincenzo & Magda some sort of history with how much they fought anytime they were in the same room. (Both sims created by AlphaFen: Vincenzo, backstory. Magda, backstory.) Ella also had questions about some of the other residents in town. Was it really the same young woman but with different hair styles, or was something up. (Seriously, I frequently wondered if the game mechanics were aware some how of the renovacy rules for the Modise household as I would never see both at the same time.) Week two saw Ella able to realx and hang out more while getting to know the people who lived around her in the community. Week two also saw enough coffee bean profits to get more walls, and an all important door. While a door in of itself may not seem like a big deal to most. For Ella it meant she now had a proper address, and could take on a formal contract with the grocery store to be the primary supplier** for fresh local pesticide free coffee beans. (I registered Ella as self employed as a gardner. This is one of the few selfemployed jobs that Does Not come with a weekly stipend. Income is 100% reliant on your sim gardening daily, and then selling their produce. Therefore, by my logic, does not really break the no job rule. Bonus it eliminates the wish rolls for a job. ) As the week gradually transitioned to week three Ella continued to enjoy events around town. She even took time to admire the local wildlife (a rare spiny turtle, which she left at the park). She kept her eye on her goals too, and spent time catching fish for fertilizer. Before the third week officially started Ella earned enough extra from her produce sales to get her own bed. She however was not impressed with it, and dreamed of a nicer bed. She was quickly able to get the bare basic furnishings inside. Tried out a different bed, she still dreamt of a better bed. For some reason the mail carrier alternated between cheerful and angry mail throwing mode. Ella gave the carrier plenty of space. With all the exterior walls up, and glass roof over her mini grean house, Ella turned her attention back to the interior. By Saturday morning Ella had everything squared away to await the new fridge and windows in her small starter home, including some flowers sent to her by Karl. So she hosted a few friends, Karl declined, for a house party to celebrate her achievement. This run took a little under three weeks for Ella to build up a small starter home. Had I not gotten lettuce and an apple for the first two extra plants it might have been two weeks.
Since Ella now has the minimum basics for long term survival, it's time to rotate to a different household.
