Due to the thunderstorm with lots of lightening neither Baylee or Estevan had noticed that there was no power when they had arrived the night before. That morning over breakfast they noticed, as the milk had gone bad overnight so they couldn't have the bowl of cereal they'd wanted. Instead they settled for peanut butter sandwiches. (Lot has been given two negative traits to start: cursed, grungy. In addition to off the grid.) While Baylee was scouting the surrounding area for any harvest-able or collectable items a committee from the Windenberg home owners association showed up. They made it clear that how welcome the two young adults would be would depend on whether they intended to leave the eye sore as is or bring it in line with the historical aesthetics of the rest of the homes in the area. Baylee suddenly understood why they'd gotten the property so cheap. The one positive of the visit was that she learned that they would need a few thousand in their account to get the utilities to the lot restored. As they were leaving one of the committee members spotted the lemons Baylee had harvested and asked about them. Baylee kept four lemons, and sold the rest to the lady. The following day Baylee and Estevan caught the commuter bus into the main town center. It was nice to have free public transportation. They checked out the local library, where Estevan practiced his coding skills some more, while Baylee checked out the libraries e-readers. (Mutter, grumble, the Windenburg library doesn't have any skill books.) Baylee learned that as long as she provided the canvas and paint supplies she was free to use any easel around town she wanted. Someone had left an interesting painting behind on one. She also learned that the city council had set up the easels to cut down on artists, and would be artists, from getting into fights over who could paint where. They were thrilled to learn that as residents they had free access to the gym and all of it's amenities. They grabbed a bite to eat while their clothes were being cleaned. Before heading home Baylee insisted on checking out one of the fishing spots. As a novice to fishing Estevan had no luck. Baylee with her minimal skill level managed to catch a fish that fetched her a nice penny from the nearby cafe. The following day they traveled to Willow Creek's museum. Baylee had hoped to use the easel there but the resident painter was working on a small painting. Estevan got in trouble with one of the guests for rummaging through the trash. He pointed out that he had cleaned up after himself, and also made it clear he wouldn't mess with the museum's waste bins again. Baylee was surprised when her mom, Kaylynn, called and suggested that they should head out to the abandoned ruins. Despite a raging thunderstorm, a dance party was about to get under way. Despite the rain, which eventually stopped, they had a great time dancing until the wee hours of the morning. Despite being exhausted, and maybe a touch sick from to much of the fermented beverages being served the night before, they headed into town. Estevan wanted to check out the chess scene at the park and Baylee had the supplies she needed for a small landscape painting. Part way through the day, they went to the gym to eat, nap, and clean up. Baylee's landscape was purchased by a collector for $346, which in addition to what they had already scraped together from the fruit and fish provided Baylee with enough money for a used easel of her own at the house. She paused to look at the easel and contemplate her next painting while she fixed them a fruit salad breakfast. After breakfast she went out back and harvested lemons and cherries. Once again she kept some of the fruit while selling the rest. She wondered how long they would continue to have fresh fruit available. For a split second she considered planting her own garden, before deciding that she preferred to buy their produce than spend time gardening. Gardening was her mom's thing, while hers was art. Estevan kept her company, and discussed some of his software ideas with her while she painted. Estevan decided to take advantage of the rain and shower in the front yard. Baylee was pleased with how well her paintings were selling, and used the proceeds to get themselves some furniture. It wasn't that she didn't want to save up and get the utilities restored. It was rather she felt that they should have a small amount of comfort in the meantime, and not live like squatters in their own home. Kaylynn dropped by for a surprise visit. Which went well, except for the bit where she tried to find out how far Baylee and Estevan had gone and where the relationship was at. Baylee made it very clear that she would keep her mom in the loop if and when she and Estevan ever decided that they were more than really good friends. After Kaylynn left, Estevan suggested that Baylee should give showering in the rain a shot. He even promised to not peak. Despite slipping and falling in a mud puddle, Baylee had to admit that showering in the rain was somewhat refreshing and thanked Estevan for the suggestion. Feeling refreshed and inspired Baylee decided to do a few more paintings for the day. She was pleased that her skill, that she'd been working on since her school days, was being acknowledged by collectors. She had earned just a smidge oveer a thousand and told Estevan that she wanted to do just one more painting for the day. (When she reached level 7 painting skill, I gave her a reward trait related to her skill.) When a museum director offered her over three thousand for her painting, Baylee's first thought was that someone was having a go at her for prank day. After a bit of research she realized that the offer was legitimate, and that her painting was about to be hung in a prestigous museum. Reigning in her excitment she sent the painting off, and contacted the utilities contractor. When the work crew came by to hook up their utilities one of the workers commented that even though there weren't many windows the property had great natural lighting. (Lot trait off the grid swapped for natural light.) With power now running to the lot, they went on a mini shopping spree. Baylee noticed that she'd forgottten to get skill books and would have to remidy that.
(I need to get them a charisma book, so they can donate to charity.) Especially if the plumbing was going to keep breaking down.

That's pretty neat that you can be without power. Can you really take a shower in the rain in 4? I guess it's not so great for your sims, but it does add interest to the challenge.

Yes in s4 with the seasons add on pack sims can shower in the rain. Baylee is the first sim I've seen slip in a puddle and fall, which was interesting.

CategoriesRules With Notes
All rules in bold are Simmer SamelaRita's original rules, anything in red italic are my notes for adjustments for the s4 mechanics. What’s a renovacy? It’s a renovation-legacy. The aim is to renovate the dilapidated living quarters your sims have found themselves in. Before the youngest child becomes an adult. The rules are simple. The renovating rules. For people who like scoring things, you can score the rooms: add up the points on the furniture for environment, energy, comfort, fun and stress relief. Hunger, bladder and hygiene don’t count. A total of 10 gives you a level 1 room, 20 a level 2 and so on. Garden area: if there are plants here that you want to get rid of, you can sell them, but you can only spend the money on fences or walls or other plants. The goal for the garden is to have it fenced and gated (to keep the children safe). You can score a garden like the rooms though, by adding things to it. Building rules. Creating a family rules. |
